The Error of Rebekah

    Rebekah was a woman of prayer. She was a deeply spiritual person. We see that from the way she addressed challenges and issues in life. In Genesis 25:22, she went to God to inquire from God, why the children in her womb struggled. She didn't even go to her husband first, she went to God first. Challenges will always reveal where our trust is. If Our trust is in Jesus, we will always turn to him in prayers in times of challenges. But if we don't trust God, or if we trust God plus our own efforts/other things,  we will always turn to other "things" in difficult situations. So if you find out that prayer is your last resort in tackling challenges and issues of life, then you should make it a prayer point for God to help you trust him completely and wholly. However, this is not the subject we are addressing. There is something I observed that went wrong in Rebekah's household.  She got the revelation and prophecy concerning her children's destiny and even engineered, aided the fulfillment of that prophecy.

     She left the destiny of her children to only prophecy. Like Eli, when God revealed through Samuel the destruction coming upon his household, he replied,"It is the LORD.Let him do what seems good to him"(1 Samuel 3:18).  This is very important especially now that we have different prophecies concerning the new year. There is a position that God requires from us to take concerning revelations and prophecies. He wants us to stay in prevailing prayer and realign revelations according to the will of God. That will, God lets us know in  Jeremiah 29:11, is of good and not of evil. So we know his will is for us to live long healthy lives. When someone prophesies and sees in the spirit things that are negative or contrary to the word of God, we don't throw up our hands in defeat, rather we kneel in prayers like Elijah until there is a change. We are not powerless or victims in this life. We have been given power to plant and to uproot according to Jeremiah 1:10

 "See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms to root out and to pull down, and to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.”

  

    In fact Rebekah aided that prophecy in Genesis 25:23. I believe that as a result of that revelation, she loved Jacob more than Esau and helped Jacob deceitfully take away the blessing of Esau. She helped the division of her household. I believe Esau's destiny could have been different if Rebekah interceded for her children like Abraham did for Lot. I believe it is enough reason for us to go back to God in prayer when he reveals to us like he revealed to Rebekah, "And two peoples from within you shall be divided"(Gen 25:23). Why do I say so? We see all through history, instances where man pleaded with God on issues and  God changed his mind concerning those issues. Hezekiah pleaded with God for his life and the Lord added more years to him even when it was revealed that he was going to die (Isaiah 38). 

    Friends, we are not called to a passive relationship with God. We have been called to insist and demand through prayers that God's will be done in our lives, in our homes and in our nations. It is not left to God alone. God is waiting on us to make decrees and realign destinies. He wants us to prevail upon him in  prayers like Jacob did that night he encountered God. When you see negative things in dreams and visions, don't be passive about it, immediately realign it in prayer. We have been called not to keep silent until the righteousness in our nations, cities, territories and homes goes forth as brightness (Isaiah 62:1).
