The Beauty of a Godly Woman

What is your definition of beauty? when you look at the mirror, what do you see? Not good enough? What frames your perception of beauty? I have observed that many women form their notion of beauty from peers, societal perspective and media influence. Sometimes, a lot of ladies use the pictures they see on the media, Facebook, Instagram, television, and what the society think about them as a yardstick for defining themselves. The consequences of this,  is that we begin to raise a generation of women who base their worth and value on their body and  and how they look. We raise a generation of women who suffer from issues of low self esteem, insecurities and lack of acceptance of who they are. Society has long taught us that a beautiful woman is a woman who is slender, slim , with nice curves, long hair, ...(you can add to the definition). This blog is to challenge that definition.

As believers, our worth and value should be defined by God's word not about what society says. It is important to know that in the kingdom of God where we live, we don't focus on what is seen for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Cor 4:18). Society's definition of beauty is fleeting and transient. In other words, it is temporary. Give yourself time, in the next 50 years that good looking skin will sag, wrinkles will begin to appear on the face and those curves will be no more. Physical beauty is like an icing on the cake. The main deal is the cake! The hidden man of the heart!
But what makes a godly woman beautiful?

1. A beautiful woman is a woman with an internal beauty:
1 Peter 3:3-5 (TLB)
Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelry, or beautiful clothes, or hair arrangement. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God. That kind of deep beauty was seen in the saintly women of old, who trusted God and fitted in with their husbands' plans.

This kind of beauty is deep and not superficial. It is not a beauty that has its foundation on what the eyes can see, such as Jewelries, looks, clothes etc. This is not to say that we shouldn't look good and beautiful! Yes, we should! In fact its important to carry yourself with style and grace because we are God ambassadors, but we shouldn't define ourselves by how we look. Internal beauty comes from spending time with the lord and having a working relationship with the holy spirit. The bible describes that internal beauty as,"gentle and quiet spirit that is so precious to God" Now this does not mean being shy or  not being able to speak up. Rather this verse is talking about the calmness that comes from submitting, depending, and trusting God. This calmness is a rest in God even in the deadliest storm of life. Its talking about the ability to know when to act and when not not to act, when to speak and when not to speak. Overall, its talking about being led by the holy spirit.  A beautiful woman is a woman that is led by the holy spirit!

2. A beautiful woman is a woman with wisdom and noble character:
Prov 11:22 (TLB)
A beautiful woman lacking discretion and modesty is like a fine gold ring in a pig's snout.

A beautiful and  godly woman  has wisdom. This is not worldly wisdom, but the wisdom that comes from the knowledge of the word of God. This wisdom is applying the knowledge of God's word in your daily life and walking according to the instructions of the holy ghost. Wisdom is seen in her actions, speech, and decisions. A wise woman is slow to speak, slow to judge but quick to love, forgive, and help. She is a builder and nurturer.

3. A beautiful woman is teachable and submissive:
The beauty of a godly woman lies in her ability to submit both to God, husband and authorities. She understands her placement in God's order of creation. She is not arrogant or proud but humble and learns when corrected. She consistently grows and adjusts according to God's word.

Finally, God is the perfection of beauty. And as he is, so we are! (1 John 4:17) So that means as children of God , we are the perfection of beauty.  When we spend time studying and meditating on God's word, we understand who we are and what God has made us!

  1. Aunty Love. You said it all. Divorce will reduce if people understand that internal beauty lasts longer than the physical beauty. I will share this. Thanks
